In light of the recent Equine influenza situation the Pony Breeders of Shetland Association (PBSA) have issued the following guidelines which should be adhered to with regard to the 2019 Breed Show.
Vaccinations are not required however we do expect all exhibitors to exercise the highest bio security standards and measures. All equines must be fit and well, showing no signs of any type of illness, or having shown any signs of any type of illness within the 21 days prior to the show.
If new cases are discovered closer to the date of the show the committee may review these guidelines. We understand individuals are obviously concerned for the health and safety of their animals, the current risk is no higher than at any other time – it has just been brought to the attention of a wider number of people due to its presence in the racing industry. We ask all exhibitors to take a common sense approach.
Should any equine display signs of illness at the show, you will be asked to leave the show ground immediately with appropriate support from the PBSA. The PBSA committee accepts no responsibility for competitors or equines competing at the Breed Show and entrants do so at their own risk. The PBSA committee do encourage owners to follow the British Equestrian Federation (BEF) advice regarding influenza vaccines.
Do not mix your equines with others. Do not share equipment, buckets, etc with others. Maintain space from all other equines and do not allow your horse to sniff other horses.
