The group usually holds it's meetings in a soulless hotel room and our numbers have been getting lower, especially in the summer, so for our June meeting it was decided to hold it at the home of two of our members, Ian and Margaret Smith of the Ramana Stud. The day turned out to be a huge success with many more members attending. As well as the business meeting we had a stock judging competition using four of Margaret's mares and four foals, won by Marjory Martin, and other fun things like guess the weight of a lamb and name the pygmy goat kids, but for many the highlight was seeing Ian's two Clydesdale foals. This is a new enterprise for him to enjoy in his retirement and a bit different for him after leading Margaret's minatures around the showring. We look forward to seeing him at the local shows. The day was rounded off with the usual raffle and a lovely afternoon tea supplied by our hosts and other members of our group. All the proceeds of the day will be donated to Grass-sickness research at the request of our hosts. As chairman I was especially pleased firstly by the numbers that turned up but more importantly that people stayed around to chat and generally socialize. It is hoped that this format will be repeated at least once a year.
