South West Group Pony Agility Day
On Sunday the 19th of February the South West Shetland Pony Group held a pony agility day at the Rexon Stud. Firstly we would like to say thank-you to Vanessa Bee for making it such a wonderful day for everyone (ponies too of course!). We had an amazing turnout of ponies & handlers as well as spectators on the day. We started by being shown how to work in tandem with our ponies on a loose lead-rein, gradually obstacles such as bridges, flags, tarpaulin & arch-ways scary ribbons dangling down were brought out around the in-door school for us all to try. Amazingly the Shetlands were not daunted by this at all, most in fact found it a bit of a challenge going round the obstacles, trying them out, they all looked to be thoroughly enjoying themselves all day. After a break for lunch we all went around the agility course that Vanessa had set up for us, each pony went around the course getting points out of 5 for the handling & out of 5 for how well the pony went over/ through the obstacle. The winner on the day over the course was Collytown Free Spirit, but to be honest everyone was a winner because no-one had done it before and we all had a fantastic day, we were all very tired too!!!
