3rd September 2018

The 2018 Annual SPSBS Breed Show was held on the 26th August  at the Three Counties Showground,  Malvern, hosted by the Central Shetland Pony Group

The 2018 Shetland Pony Stud Book Society Breed Show was hosted by the Central Shetland Pony Group and organised by Mrs Mary Davenport and Mr Andrew Britland.

The Society’s AGM was held on the Saturday evening which was well attended.  After the meeting about 100 members enjoyed a buffet supper.

The day started grey and damp and soon the rain arrived. Despite the torrential rain all five rings carried on thanks to the efficient organisation by Mary and Lucinda Davenport and their hardworking team of stewards. Everyone stayed very cheerful and thoroughly enjoyed the day. The classes were well filled with exhibitors coming from all round the UK.  Many exhibitors stayed on the Sunday night before marking their long journeys home.

The Standard Black ring champion was Kingswood Royal Arwen, a 4yr old barren mare owned by Mrs Jill Jones,  Buxted Stud, from Sussex. The Standard Coloured ring Champion was Dryfesdale Divine, a 5yr old barren mare owned and bred by Mrs Eileen Carlyle, Dryfesdale Stud, from Dumfries. The Miniature ring champion was Eiger Oliver, a 6yr old stallion owned and bred by Mr and Mrs Frank Hodder, Eiger Stud, from Somerset. The Ridden ring Champion was Waulkmill Redstart bred by Mrs Rowena Provan, exhibited by Miss Anna Chaplin, and ridden by Dakota Keys. Waulkmill Redstart also won the HOYS Open Ridden Qualifier. The Driven ring Champion was Foldhouse Little Lord Valentine owned and driven by Su Woodcock from Stoke on Trent.

It was a delight to see an extremely well filled Progeny class which was won by Mesdames Pickett and Sargeant’s group of Standard Black ponies who exhibited a group of ponies all out of their home bred mare,  Champlers Rosebud.

The following overall perpetual trophies were given:

Merlin (Novice) - Warrackston Delight

Seva (Broken Coloured) - Pinglewood Rosa

Seva Harry O (Bred in Wales) Carmilo Temptation

Normandykes (Bred in Shetland) - Robin’s Brae Tilly

Eastlands (Best Foal) - Ledbury Estralita

The NPS/Kilmannan Stud M and M In Hand Silver Medal Rosette was awarded to Mr and Mrs Frank Hodder’s Eiger Oliver by Miss Jane Paterson.

Fortunately, the rain stopped and A good crowd stayed on to watch the Supreme Championship.

All the ring Champions went forward to be judged by the 5 ring judges and after a nail-biting wait the Supreme Champion and Reserve were announced.

Supreme Champion Foldhouse Little Lord Valentine.

Reserve Supreme  Eiger Oliver.
