President's Report

1st September 2025

Dear Members,

It is both an honour and a pleasure to present my first report as President.

At this year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on 16 August 2025, the Council was delighted to welcome more than 70 members. Meeting so many of you in person, listening to your ideas, and discussing your concerns was invaluable. I would like to reassure you that any outstanding questions raised during the meeting have been carefully noted and will be addressed in due course.

I would especially like to congratulate Mary Davenport, Neil Buffery, and their dedicated team for their excellent organisation of the 2025 SPSBS Breed Show, which took place at Weston Lawns, Bedworth, on 17 August. The atmosphere throughout the day was vibrant, thanks to the enthusiasm of competitors, spectators, and supporters alike. The judges awarded the title of Supreme Champion to the ridden pony Briar Puzzle, while the miniature grey stallion Oxgang Fernando was awarded Reserve Supreme. Their achievements are a testament to the quality of ponies presented this year.

Just a week earlier, the French Daughter Stud Book Society had the kindly hosted the 2025 International Shetland Pony Show. The event brought together outstanding ponies and exhibitors from across Europe, and its success reflects the dedication of all who participated. On behalf of the Mother Stud Book, I would like to extend our warmest congratulations and thanks to the organisers, exhibitors, and supporters.

Looking ahead, the International Shetland Pony Council (ISPC) Meeting will take place later this month in Hyllestad, Norway. Representatives from our European daughter stud books will gather to discuss matters of importance for the future of the Shetland Pony. I will be attending alongside our Vice President, Mr Steve Rendall, to represent the Mother Stud Book, and I look forward to sharing outcomes from these discussions with you.

I am also pleased to welcome David Gibson and Kate Hampton, who will be joining the Council in 2026. Meanwhile, the vote for the vacant Welsh seat resulted in a tie, and fresh voting papers have been issued. Unfortunately, the Scottish seat remains unfilled due to there being no nominations.

Our office staff continue to work diligently, particularly with the high volume of foal registrations and the preparation of passports ahead of the forthcoming autumn sales. Their commitment ensures that everything runs smoothly for breeders and owners alike. I very much look forward to meeting many of you at the Lerwick and Worcester sales later this year.
